The Norwich Regional Contest is one of six Regional Contests in Connecticut. It is mandatory that students attend the contest in order to present their work. This includes website and paper students.  Students who finish in the top three are invited to the State Contest, which takes place on May 4 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain.

Public Display

Connecticut History Day allows the public to view projects throughout the day. We allow an audience to be present for the interviews for students who have created documentaries, performances, papers, and websites. The exhibit hall is closed for viewing during judging times, but typically opens to the public for a couple of hours around noon.

What to Expect During the contest

Contest Day is an exciting and generally long day! Students arrive for registration between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. and the day concludes with the awards ceremony that usually ends around 2:30 p.m.

What to Bring: Students must bring four copies of all paperwork unless they have created Websites. For those participating in the Documentary category, bring your DVD and/or thumb drive and, if you can, bring a laptop as a backup.

Between meeting other NHD students, checking out the projects and hanging out with old and new friends, you might want to consider bringing along:

  •   *A book or other reading material

  •   *Homework

  •   *A game or playing cards

*In addition, at some venues there may be some entertainment options like a movie.

The Food Situation:
You’re probably going to get hungry. We suggest packing a lunch or snacks.

The Wi-Fi Situation: For those bringing laptops or other electronic devices, please be advised we cannot guarantee Wi-Fi service.

Student History Day projects are judged by teams of volunteer judges. All judging at History Day is done on a consensus basis and judges' decisions are final. Judges are recruited from the local community; they are educators, historians, curators, video producers, writers, lawyers, and business people with a love of history and education.

 Why volunteer to judge?

*Get to meet some of CT's outstanding youth
 *Community Involvement
